Project Overview:

As part of an essential initiative, I led a project concentrated on business process outsourcing (BPO) for the collection of NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) codes pertaining to 401(k) plans. Given the vital role of NAICS codes in understanding industry classifications and ensuring DOL/IRS form accuracy, this project aimed at obtaining missing NAICS codes for 7k+ 401(k) plans. For this endeavor, we collaborated with a 3rd party outsourced vendor, ensuring meticulous Quality Assurance (QA), data cleanup, and proper data manipulation and upload. The project necessitated skilled coordination with BPO teams, adept data querying, analytical prowess, and collaboration with internal teams for its initiation. Furthermore, the insights and discoveries from this project opened the pathway for discussions on long-term API integration.

Key Objectives:

  1. NAICS Code Acquisition: Secure the necessary NAICS codes for 401(k) plans, ensuring each plan aligns with government compliance standards.

  2. Data Integrity and Compliance: Guarantee that the obtained NAICS codes uphold quality standards and are compliant with DOL/IRS directives.

  3. Vendor Collaboration: Efficiently manage the relationship with the 3rd party outsourced vendor to ensure precise data procurement.

  4. Data Management: Employ proficient querying and analytical techniques to manipulate and effectively integrate the acquired data.

  5. Future Integration Planning: Leverage the project's findings to explore and strategize for a potential long-term API integration.

Approach:

  1. Engagement with Internal Teams: Coordinated with internal teams to lay the foundation for the BPO project, outlining the scope, expected deliverables, and milestones.

  2. Vendor Management: Instituted a systematic communication channel with the 3rd party outsourced vendor, guaranteeing prompt and accurate NAICS code retrieval.

  3. Data Quality Assurance: Undertook rigorous QA measures, validating the NAICS codes sourced from the vendor, performing data cleanup, and ensuring their precision and applicability.

  4. Data Manipulation and Integration: Utilized advanced querying methods and analytical skills for effective data manipulation and seamless uploading to our systems.

  5. Continual BPO Team Liaison: Organized consistent checkpoints with the BPO teams, ensuring alignment with project goals and addressing challenges promptly.

Results:

Through concerted efforts in vendor management, data acquisition, and analysis, the project adeptly sourced and integrated the essential NAICS codes for over 7k 401(k) plans. This ensured all plans remained compliant, with their DOL/IRS forms being accurately classified and filed within government deadlines. Beyond the immediate outcomes, the insights from this project laid the groundwork for initiating plans for long-term API integration. This project epitomizes the harmony of immediate task resolution combined with forward-thinking strategic insights, underscoring the multi-faceted benefits of thorough project evaluations.
